RealiMation MultiMedia Demo for RealMation v4.1 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ © March 1996, Datapath Ltd Updated December 1996. Theatre and Art Gallery building designs, © D.S.Curry, B.A., B.Arch. Datapath acknowledges the copyright on the various music files on this disc. These files are for demonstration purposes only, and may not be redistributed. Description of files on disk ============================ 'title.rbs' - title sequence, with 2001 music, links to theatre.rbs 'theatre.rbs' - fly through of open-air theatre, with hotlinks to various .wav and .mid files. Also hotlinks to helisim.avi, and theatre.bmp, before finally linking into gallery.rbs. Note, there is about a 40 second delay in the RealiBase before the fly through starts - this is to allow time for title.rbs to run. 'gallery.rbs' - fly through of art gallery, at end links back to title.rbs. Again, there is a delay of 220 seconds before the fly through starts, to allow for title.rbs, and theatre.rbs to run. 'killer.exe' - small program which looks for any instance of the following programs which are running, and causes them to close down : 'Media Player', 'PaintBrush', 'MicroSoft Paint'. The program is the first hotlink in 'title.rbs', and is designed to 'reset' everything, so the sequence can loop indefinately. Also various .wav files, .mid files, .avi and .bmp files (see note above about copyright on music files). Machine Setup ============= You may need to change a bit of the setup on the machine for the demo to work properly. 1. The media player needs to be able to play midi files (.MID, .RMI) If it can't, it may be best to delete all the .MID files from the directory, and run without music, otherwise you'll probably get warning messages appearing midway through the demo. 2. Preventing media player from auto-repeating. -------------------------------------------- Your media player may be setup to keep playing video / midi files repeatedly. To stop this, you need to run media-player, load one of the .avi files from the \mmdemo directory, chose 'Edit | Options', and make sure that 'Auto Repeat' is not checked. Choose OK, then close down media-player to make sure it's saved the change. You will probably need to repeat this, but loading a MIDI file (.MID) into the media player. Everything should now be ready to play... 3. A quick note about loading WAV files... --------------------------------------- When the viewer has to play a .WAV file, the entire file is loaded into memory first, before being played. This is OK for small files, eg those containing just voice, but music files (such as the '2001' music at the start of the title sequence) may take a few seconds to load up. If this is a problem, and you have enough memory, you can reduce this figure by creatingy a ramdisk (under '95) as drive d: (or whatever letter is available for the next drive), put the 2001.wav file on this drive, and set up the hotlink in title.rbs to 'd:\200.wav'. If the hotlink isn't found, then the viewer automatically looks in the same directory that the .RBS file is in. If you have enough memory (eg > 32Mbyte), you may wish to set up a ramdisk which is large enough to contain the full multimedia demo, copy all the files onto the ramdisk, and run from there. 4. Machine Specification --------------------- For this demo to run properly, you need a machine capable of playing .wav, and .mid files. Minimum processor would be a 486DX2-66, although a Pentium 90 or above is recommended. Although the demo will run in 8Mbytes of memory, this increases the loading time between RealiBases to such an extent that some of the timings may not work, and hotlinks may be missed, so 16Mbytes or above is a better figure. ###########################################################################
