Date: Wed, 8 Apr 1998 14:40:06 -0700 (PDT) MotorCross GO! FAQ v0.1 by Poln (psu19257@odin.cc.pdx.edu) Basic Guide ONLY! Namco, the makers of the game, has teamed up with Yamaha, to make this game possible. You will also see _live_ footage of dirt bike racing action. This is similar to NFL Blitz. Note: I do not mean live as in right now, just real footage of real action. Welcome to MotorCross Go! This is one of the new racing games from Namco who brought you the Tekken series, Soul Edge, and other goodies. This is a basic guide for this game, (what it is, Times, etc..). This is NOT a FAQ on how to do better techniques, improve your skills during the race, etc.. You can write about them yourself or you can e-mail me and I'll add it to this faq. If you are into racing games, then this game is for you. For first timers (if no one's waiting) take the time to watch the screen as they will teach you how to operate the motorcycle in this game. This is _NOT_ a substitute for a real Harley. This is ONLY a game. They'll teach you how to steer, turns, speed up, etc. or you can ask someone with experience or watch someone on what they do. This is a one player game similar to Alpine Racer, Time Crisis, Prop Cycle, etc. (you get the idea). Now.. Start of Game When you first put in your quarters, you choose what race to start. You have about ~15 seconds to choose. There are 3 levels. Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. Move the bike to choose the stage, press the green button to start. More about them in a minute. If you have played ??Suzuki 8 Hours??, or other motorcycle type of game, then this may be familar to you. Unlike past motorcycle games (except for Prop Cycle), this game has hills, turns, and jumps like in a real dirt bike race. You have two views to choose. The Default is like view 3 from Sega Super GT or Daytona USA. If you press the green button, you are in the drivers seat. The only catch is when you do jumps, you won't see the action. After you choose your level, be ready to start the race, you have 3 sec. before you start up. You wear a light blue suit with the number 1 which is also your bike number. Similar to a real bike race, you and other bikers (CPU) will start in a line. The gate will go down when you hear the word "GO." As in any other racing game, you will start dead last. In this case, you will start in Position 17 as you try to move up the position to 1st. You have ~70 seconds to start. Time will be added as you pass through checkpoints. Like driving, you will need to watch the signs and where you expect to go or turn. This is very important. When you do the jumps (if successful), you will see the player do a stunt. Below are some of the stunts. If you leave the position to "A" There are NO techniques in doing this, the CPU does this for you in random when you do big jumps. The announcer will show you what stunt performed. At times during small jumps, he'll look at you and give a thumbs up. He'll may say "Yea!" at times when appropiate. NO HANDER CANDY BAR CAN CAN BAR HOP NO FOOTER WHIP BAR WRAP More will be available later as I get to see them or you can tell me what the rest are. When you go past the checkpoint, time will be added to the time remaining left on the clock (time extended). You will also see the elapsed time so far. If you see the flashing red, that means you broke a record for that part of the race. Speed Check. Note.. this is in MPH (USA), I don't know what the avg. KM or record speed in KM unless you can show me how to convert MPH to KM. Like 80KM ~ 60MPH or tell me in your area. At somepoint (during the middle of the race) you will go a speed check. Advanced modes will do this twice if you have time leftover. In this one you will need to go as fast as you can. From what I saw, the avg. MAX Speed is around 85 M.P.H. The record is usually 88,89,90. I rarely saw someone doing 90 MPH. Usually it is done in Intermediate and 2nd Half of the Advanced course because the turn is not so tight there towards the end. It would disappoint me if you crash your bike during this part of the race by hitting another bike. The level of Difficulty Novice. You will start at the beginning and you will finish 1/2 way. You first go through a couple of turns, and your first jump. Then after the first checkpoint, you go to the fork of the road where you either jump or go around it. When you jump, you won't do any stunts, just a general jump. You will see a Pac-Man figure giving a thumbs up. I'm thinking that he likes the race. After that, you will turn left, go under the bridge (overpass) and you will do a speed check. Be sure to go as fast as you can on the striaghtaway. Once you finish, you will turn right, and try to do another jump. You will go to a 2nd checkpoint. Hope the time after the 2nd checkpoint is at least 35 seconds on the clock left. Anything less than that, you may have a slim chance of completing the race since this will be the last checkpoint.. You will go up the stairs and you will need to do a hard right and decrease your speed (like around 30-40 MPH) in the turn cause if you hit wall when you turn, you will crash. From the time you crash to the time you get back takes about 3-5 seconds and you will lose valuable time. This is the ONLY the hardest part of the game, the rest, hope you can manuever the turns. Next, you go through the dirt road the rest of the game.. If you ride in water, your speed will go down considerably. You will go through more turns, and 1 or 2 jumps. There is a big jump about 3/4 of the way towards the finish. You better do good, otherwise you will fall in the hole. What a disaster. You will see it when you see the big screen. After that, hope you finish the race. Complete the race in the time of 1:43:xx and you will finish the race w/ finesse. Intermediate. You will start the 2nd half of the race. CPU calls it the latter half of the course. Complete the race time in 1:45:xx and you will do okay. I saw people almost finish the race, but can't go up the hill in time. Such a heartbreaker. You will start where you finish the race from Novice and end up on where you begin [in reality, you will start in reverse]. You will first go through a jump and manuever some turns, this time up the hill, then you will do a hard left. Same rule as novice, but going the opposite way if you accidently hit the wall.. You then go downstairs to the first checkpoint (Avg time from Start to 1st checkpoint, 45 sec.) Then, you do a speed check. After that you turn right (not a hard right like the other one) and you see the fork of the road. Either jump, or go around it. Same rule, you won't do a stunt. Then you go to the final checkpoint. Finally, you will do a final jump and a few more turns to finish the race. Advanced. You will do a round trip. You will need to complete the beginner's course in 1:35:xx-1:39:xx (about 3-5+ sec. faster than the Beginners' course) or sooner. Otherwise you won't make it. Once you past the Beginner's area, you will do the loop and come back.. You need about 45 seconds or better on the clock to complete this section successfully. Means you will loop back and later do a hard left (in succession) + going down stairs before your 2nd speed check (and 3rd checkpoint). In advanced, they assume you can manuever and opearate the cycle well in turns, speed, etc. so the time will be a little shorter. Avg time is 3mins and some odd seconds when completing the advance course. (It's novice + intermediate combined). End results... If time ran out before you finish the race, the announcer will say "Aww, too bad, why don't you try again." or "What a hard rough race." You will see an offical with the biker (you) in a way that you are very disappointed in finishing the race. It will show you what position that you are on and how many more FT, or KM depending on how far way from reaching your goal. Then GAME OVER. I don't know what the announcer says when you finish the race, help me out here. When you complete the race, you will see the word "FINISH" on the center of the screen indicating that you complete the race successfuly, If your ranking is 2nd or lower, you'll see the person is very happy that you completed the race. [I'm not sure if you can put in your initials for one of the fastest time(s) at that point]. If you complete the race in 1st place, an offical will drive the bike for you and you ride in it, celebrating the victory that you are in first place; you will do a victory lap, celebrating your trimuph. As he drives towards the screen, the camera will pan to the big screen and you will see the credits (people who made this game possible). After the credits, if you got the fastest time, it will ask you to put in your initials. When finished, you will see what ranking you are when completed. Well...that's it..for now...
