INDEPENDENCE WAR / I-WAR 3DFX PATCH V1.21 OCTOBER 1998 Once installed this patch addresses several issues in the original release of Independence War and the I-War 3DFX Upgrade: 1. Third Party Force Feedback joysticks such as the CH Force FX and the Logitech Wingman Force are now supported. 2. A -norudder option has been added to work around the Windows98 joystick driver problem where the ship could continually roll with some digital joystick drivers. To add this option follow these instructions: a. Install the patch b. Edit the shortcut you are running the game from by clicking on the shortcut with the right mouse button and selecting properties from the menu. c. Add -norudder to the end of the box labelled 'Target', making sure that the option is placed after any quotation marks. d. Click OK to save the changes. 3. CD access when loading speech has been improved. 4. The crash that occurs sometimes when clicking on the tracking device has been fixed. HOW TO INSTALL 1. USERS OF INDEPENDENCE WAR: Extract the IWAR.EXE file into a temporary directory and copy it into the game install directory. The default install directory is: c:\Program Files\Particle Systems\Independence War\ It will overwrite the original IWAR.EXE, so don't worry if Windows asks if you want to replace the file - click yes. Then run the game as normal. 2. USERS OF I-WAR 3DFX: IMPORTANT: YOU MUST HAVE INSTALLED THE 3DFX UPGRADE BEFORE USING THIS PATCH! Extract the IWAR.EXE file into a temporary directory and rename it to GAME.EXE. Copy GAME.EXE into the game install directory. The default install directory is: c:\Program Files\I-War\ It will overwrite the original GAME.EXE, so don't worry if Windows asks if you want to replace the file - click yes.
