Stop downloading large messages

You can prevent large messages from downloading to your Inbox from your e-mail server .

  1. On the Tools menu, point to Send/Receive Settings, and then click Define Send/Receive Groups.
  2. In the list, click the group that includes the account you want, and then click Edit.
  3. Under Accounts, click the account you want.
  4. In the list, select each folder you want to specify limits for, and for each folder, continue this procedure with step 5. POP3 accounts only contain an Inbox folder on the server.
  5. Do one of the following:

If you are using Exchange Server

    1. Click Limit Message Size.
    2. Under Message size limit, select the Don't download messages larger than [x] KB check box, and then enter a number in the box.

Note   If you want to receive some large messages but not others, select check boxes under Exceptions to specify which messages you want to download. For example, you can specify that messages from a certain person, such as your manager, are to be downloaded to your Inbox regardless of size.

If you are using POP3 accounts

If you are using IMAP and HTTP accounts such as Hotmail

Note   You cannot specify a per-folder download size restriction; however, you can choose to download only message headers, so that you can choose which messages to download from the server.
