The features described in this Help topic are only available if support for right-to-left languages are enabled through Microsoft Office Language Settings. To enable right-to-left features, you must be running a Microsoft Windows operating system that has right-to-left support.
Do one of the following:
Change global text direction settings
Click Right-to-Left to set edit field starting alignment to right, reading order to right-to-left, and keyboard language to the currently enabled right-to-left language.
Click Left-to-Right to set edit field starting alignment to left, reading order to left-to-right, and keyboard language to the currently enabled left-to-right language.
Click Context to set paragraph attributes to match the language of the text entered ù for example, if Arabic text is entered, paragraph direction and reading order will be right-to-left, and alignment will be to the right.
Note When you change the global text direction setting, it will affect the edit fields of items opened after you change the setting; it will not affect the text direction of the edit fields of items already open.
Change paragraph direction by using shortcut keys
Press CTRL+LEFT SHIFT to set a left-to-right paragraph direction on the current paragraph, resulting in left alignment and left-to-right reading order.
Press CTRL+RIGHT SHIFT to set a right-to-left paragraph direction on the current paragraph, resulting in right alignment and right-to-left reading order.
Note You cannot use CTRL+SHIFT to change reading order and alignment if there is a strong character in the control ù only when the control is empty or contains only neutral characters.
Change paragraph direction by using the
mouse.
Click Left-to-Right
to have text begin
on the left side of the
paragraph.
Click Right-to-Left
to have text begin
on the right side of the
paragraph.
