Troubleshoot spelling checks

How do I get rid of the wavy, red lines that appear underneath words as I type?

Microsoft PowerPoint checks spelling as you type, and any words that aren't in the PowerPoint dictionary get marked with a red underline.

During a spelling check, I chose the Change All button, but not every misspelled word changed.

Microsoft PowerPoint does not check the spelling in embedded objects such as charts, in special text effects such as WordArt, or in inserted objects such as Microsoft Word documents or tables.

The spelling checker isn't checking words I've typed in another language, or it thinks that foreign words I've typed correctly are wrong.

It may be that the foreign words are not getting tagged with the correct language identification.

  1. Select the foreign text. If the text is within an object such as a text box or AutoShape, select the object (or select multiple objects on a single slide).
  2. On the Tools menu, click Language.
  3. Select the language of the text you want checked for spelling, and then click OK.

You may have to repeat these steps several times to mark text on several slides.

  4. On the Standard toolbar, click Spelling .

The spelling checker checked only part of my presentation.
