I want to broadcast to more than 10 people, but I don't have a Windows Media Server.
If you don't have Windows Media Services, a maximum of 10 computers can be connected to your broadcast at a time. The eleventh computer that tries to connect will receive a message informing its user that the computer cannot connect to the broadcast. If you don't have a Windows Media Server but would like more than 10 people to see the broadcast, use a third-party Windows Media server provider. When you set the Windows Media server settings, select the Use third party Windows Media service provider option (on the Slide Show menu, point to Online Broadcast, click Settings, and then click the Advanced tab). Then, choose a provider from the Web site that appears in a browser after you make that setting choice. The providers sometimes allow you to try the service for free one time, so you can test the service before your broadcast time.
I want to send video with my broadcast.
To send video with a presentation, you must have a video camera attached to the presenter's computer, and it is highly recommended that you use a Windows Media server. For more information, see the Microsoft Office XP Resource Kit Web site.
Note The hyperlink in this topic goes to the Web. You can switch back to Help at any time.
If I don't have Microsoft Outlook, how will people tune into the broadcast?
The URL of the broadcast site will be included in the invitation e-mail message, even if you don't use Outlook for e-mail. They can click the URL, or copy and paste the URL into their browser address box, to go to the broadcast location.
While waiting to view a scheduled presentation broadcast, the timer reaches zero but the broadcast does not start.
The broadcast starting time is based on the clock on the presenter's computer. If the viewer's clock isn't in sync with the presenter's clock, the broadcast might not start at the exact time indicated on the lobby page.
I want to "record and save" a broadcast, but the option is unavailable.
This option may be unavailable if you have selected to use a third-party Windows Media service provider. Currently, no third-party providers offer a service for recording and saving a broadcast. If you have other Windows Media server options, change this option in the Broadcast Settings dialog box, and the Record and Save command will become available.
Change the Windows Media Services options
This setting applies to all broadcasts from a particular computer, not just to the presentation you are preparing to broadcast. You should check this setting before broadcasting each time, to ensure that it reflects your preference for that broadcast session.
- Open the presentation you want to broadcast.
- On the Slide Show menu, point to Online Broadcast, and then click Settings.
- On the Advanced tab, do one of the following:
- If you want to use a remote Microsoft Windows Media encoder, type the name of the encoder in the Use this remote encoding machine field. It is not necessary to include back or forward slashes with the computer name.
- If you want to use a local server with Windows Media Services (on your LAN), type the name of the server in the Use this local Windows Media Server on this LAN field. It is not necessary to include back or forward slashes with the computer name.
- If you don't have access to a Windows Media Server and you want to use one, select the Use a third party Windows Media service provider option.
- Click OK to save the setting.
Note If you selected the third-party Windows Media service provider option in step 3 above, then after you click Start or Schedule, you will be directed to a Web site that offers service provider options to choose from. The remainder of the broadcast process will be handled through the third-party service provider.
All settings in the Broadcast Settings dialog box apply to all broadcasts from a particular computer, not just to the presentation you are preparing to broadcast. You should check these settings before broadcasting each time, to ensure that they reflect your preference for that broadcast session.
I don't have a video camera or a microphone, but when I begin a broadcast session, the program keeps checking for the video and microphone.
To avoid this, turn off the Video/Audio option in the Broadcast Settings dialog box.
How?
- On the Slide Show menu, point to Online Broadcast, and then click Settings.
- On the Presenter tab, do one of the following:
- If you want audio capability only, under Audio/Video, select the Audio only option.
- If you do not want audio or video functionality, under Audio/Video, select None.
Note This setting applies to all broadcasts from a particular computer, not just to the presentation you are preparing to broadcast. You should check this setting before broadcasting each time, to ensure that it reflects your preference for that broadcast session.
