Add a word to an Input Method Editor (IME) dictionary

This feature is available only when you have installed a Japanese, Simplified Chinese, or Traditional Chinese IME on your computer.

In addition, you may need to enable support for Japanese, Simplified Chinese, or Traditional Chinese through Microsoft Office Language Settings.

Add a word to the Japanese IME dictionary

  1. On the Language bar, select Japanese, and then click the Tools button.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Dictionary Tool.
  3. In Microsoft IME Dictionary Tool, click Add on the Edit menu.
  4. Click on the Add Word tab.
  5. In the Reading box, enter the reading of the word you want to register in hiragana or alphanumeric characters.
  6. In the Display box, enter the display of the word you want to register.
  7. Click Register to save the word.

Add a phrase to the Simplified Chinese dictionary

  1. On the Language bar, select Chinese (Taiwan), and then click the Tools button.
  2. On the Tools menu, click User phrase.
  3. In Microsoft New Phonetic IME 2002 user define phrase tool, click Add Phrase on the Edit menu.
  4. Type the phrase in the Phrase box, and then press ENTER.
  5. On the File menu, click Save.

Add a phrase to the Traditional Chinese dictionary

  1. On the Language bar, select Chinese (PRC), and then click the Context menu button.
  2. On the Context menu, click User-defined phrase tool.
  3. In MSPY IME User-defined Phrase Tool, click Add Phrase on the Edit menu.
  4. Type the phrase in the Phrase box, and the press ENTER.
  5. On the File menu, click Save.
