Add chapter numbers to page numbers
If your document contains multiple chapters, you may want to restart page numbering for each chapter รน for example, 1-1, 1-2, 1-3 and 2-1, 2-2, 2-3.
Restart page numbering with 1 for each chapter or section
- If you haven't already done so, insert a section break
where you want to restart page numbering.
How?
- Click where you want to insert a section break.
- On the Insert menu, click Break.
- Under Section break types, click the option that describes where you want the new section to begin.
- Click in a section
or select multiple sections in which you want to restart page numbering.
- On the Insert menu, click Page Numbers.
- Click Format.
- In the Start at box, enter 1.
Include chapter numbers along with page numbers
- Use the Bullets and Numbering dialog box to format
your chapter titles with a built-in heading
style.
How?
- On the Format menu, click Bullets and Numbering, and then click the Outline Numbered tab.
- Click a chapter-numbering style (one that includes the text "Heading 1," "Heading 2," and
so on), and then click OK.
- Type the text you want for the numbered heading, and then press ENTER.
- To add the next numbered heading, click the arrow next to the Style
box and select the style you want.
- If your document is divided into sections, click in a section or select multiple sections in which you want to include chapter numbers along with page numbers.
- On the Insert menu, click Page Numbers.
- Click Format.
- Select the Include chapter number check box.
- In the Chapter starts with style box, click the heading style applied to the chapter titles.
- In the Use separator box, click the character that you want
to separate the chapter number from the page number.
