Introduction
Linux Mandrake™ is a complete pre-configured graphical Linux operating
system. It's easy to install, easy to use and stable.
Inside Linux Mandrake, the graphical interfaces KDE, Gnome, AfterStep, Window
Maker, IceWM etc. are fully integrated inside a very modern distribution,
fully compatible with Red Hat™ applications (RPM packages). You don't
have to spend hours to get all those graphical interfaces to work: once
Mandrake is installed, everything works. Mandrake is also easier to use
than other distributions.
Who uses Linux Mandrake?
• newbies from the Windows world. They need an easy-to-use Linux
distribution. Mandrake is the easiest.
• other people who don't want to spend too much time when installing
and configuring their Linux box.

Installation
Instructions
We've supplied
the software as two ISO 9660 image files. That means you will need to
burn the images onto two separate CD-R discs before installation.
If you're using Adaptec's Easy CD Creator, which associates itself with
.iso files, you simply have to double-click one of the images... Easy
CD Creator will launch ready to burn the image to disc.
It's probably a good idea to copy the ISO images to your hard disk first
(if you have enough free disk space). Note that some older versions of
Easy CD Creator may wrongly report that disc capacity is exceeded - you
can download an update from the Adaptec website that will fix this bug.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
There
are two ISO images. One is called mandrake71-inst.iso and the other mandrake71-ext.iso
which is the extention CD. You can install a working system with only
the first CD but the second one brings more applications. These ISO images
work and are speed-optimised for i586 (Pentium class) processors and higher.
Both these can be found in the folder \software\linux\mandrake\
You can find a complete installation guide at the Linux website (click
here)
Be sure to read section I:3 (WARNING
- README) first!
The CD will autorun from Windows. It is also bootable.
NOTE: if you are new to Linux, you may be tempted to choose the Lnx4Win
option during installation, which doesn't require a separate partition.
This option may not work on all machines, though, as the installer is
still in beta. The neatest option is to give Linux its own partition.
WHATEVER YOU DECIDE, READ THE DOCUMENTATION FIRST!
YOU ARE INSTALLING AT YOUR OWN RISK.
