Who Should Read this Book?
Whether you're a beginning programmer or a veteran, this book can help you learn JavaScript. However, we have made a few
assumptions:
- You want to learn JavaScript. Note that Java and JavaScript are two different things. This is strictly a book about JavaScript, although methods for combining Java with JavaScript are covered.
- You are familar with the World Wide Web and the basics of creating Web pages with HTML. (Note: an electronic version of Teach Yourself Web Publishing with HTML (Professional Reference Edition) is included on the CD-ROM with this book.)
- You have a JavaScript-compatible browser. For full functionality, you'll need Netscape 3.0; the Windows and Macintosh versions are included on the CD-ROM.
- JavaScript can be edited with a simple text editor, such as Windows Notepad or your favorite HTML editor. A variety of HTML editors are included on the CD-ROM.
- To publish web pages, you'll need an internet connection and web server; however, most of the examples will also work off-line.
