Just place the program and its associated files in the Windows directory or in a dedicated folder (directory). The easiest way to set the Super NoteTab icon on your desktop is to use Explorer. Just select the file NOTETAB.EXE and drag it from Explorer to an unoccupied space on your desktop. You can also add a shortcut to it in your Start menu by choosing Settings / Taskbar... Uninstalling ------------ If you installed your copy of the editor came with an installation program (Setup.EXE), you can uninstall it by using the Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs. The following information is only relevant to users of the distribution package that did not include an installation program: If you have dedicated a folder for the editor, just delete that folder and all its files (except documents you may have saved there and want to keep!). Otherwise, just delete NOTETAB.EXE, NOTETAB.INI, NOTETAB.HLP, all files with the extensions ".FVR" and ".CLB" (in the program's directory), FILEPROP.INF, WHATSNEW.TXT, and this README.TXT file. All these files are located in the same directory as Super NoteTab. If you have executed Super NoteTab from a CD-Rom, you will find the NOTETAB.INI and FILEPROP.INF files in the Windows directory. There is no need to delete items from Windows' system registry or INI files as the editor does not store any information in them. Having said this, rest assured that I always take the time to read your messages carefully and take note of all your suggestions. If you are submitting a bug report, please first check the list of known problems in the last part of this README.TXT file. Also check, if possible, whether the bug has been fixed in the latest update. Remember to indicate which program variant and version number you are using. Eugène-Pittard 22 Ter CH - 1206 Geneva Switzerland Hope you enjoy using it! -Eric Fookes Note: this program was written with Delphi and uses components from a Shareware VCL package called the "Super Labeled Input Controls". The package, which I developed, is available for downloading from my web site at the following URL: www.unige.ch/sciences/terre/geologie/fookes/delphi.htm Delphi is a trademark of Borland International, Inc. Known Issues ------------ * On some systems, a document may stay stuck in overwrite mode. This happens when the Ins key is used in combination with other keys (Shift, Ctrl). You can solve this problem by editing the NOTETAB.INI file (Super NoteTab must not be open!) and changing the following line under the [Options] section: InternalOVR=1 change to... InternalOVR=0 * On some computers, the editor window does not always update correctly (the text seems to disappear). This problem seems to be due to some defective DLL that ships with Windows. Many users noticed the problem was fixed after installing a new Microsoft application like Internet Explorer. You can press F12 to refresh the screen each time this happens. * Super NoteTab cannot display fonts with OEM character sets (Terminal, MS Line Draw,...). This limitation is due to the rich edit control provided with Windows. Mini NoteTab, however, uses another type of input control that can correctly display such fonts. * Sometimes, modal dialog and message boxes that are supposed to stay on top of the application disappear behind it. If this happens, hit the ESC key to cancel the dialog and return the control to the main application window. This problem is due to a bug in Delphi's method for handling the Z-order of windows. * If you are getting the 'No Default Printer Selected' error, and you have installed AS/400 Client Access software, you need to get the latest verson of the AS/400 Client Access software. Microsoft's applications have some other way of using printers and bypassing the normal standard, which explains why they don't exhibit the same problem. * Sometimes, when there are many documents open and the tabs extend beyond the width of the window, unselected tabs all of a sudden disappear when you close documents. This is a bug in Windows. They will reappear again when you open a new document. ___________________________________________________ Super NoteTab, Copyright © 1996-97 Eric G.V.
