Banzai! July 7th, 1944 The bloody battle for Siapan was almost done. The men of the U.S. 4th Marine Division dug in for the night just south of the town Makunsha. North of them, the remains of the Japanese garrison prepared for what would be one the largest Banzai charges in the war. Initially suprised by the Japanese assault, the American firepower soon made its presence felt. Even before the Japanese reached the American lines, over half their number had been killed. Despite the heavy losses, the Japanese garrison still managed to punch several holes in the Marines lines before being driven off.
