General ---------- We do not anticipate you will have any problems using this CD-ROM. However, you should check the following items if an error does occur: a) Make sure the correct CD-ROM is in the CD-ROM drive. You cannot use the 1995 Guinness Multimedia Disc of Records unless it is in the CD-ROM drive. b) Verify that your equipment meets or exceeds the listed System Requirements. c) Ensure that you are not running any other applications in the background. d) Try a different video display resolution. For example: if you run Windows in 800x600 256 colors, try 640x480 in 256 colors. If your video card vendor gives you a choice of "large font" and "small font" drivers, you should choose "small font". e) Try to obtain the most recent drivers for your video card, sound board, and CD-ROM drive. The positive effect this has can be profound. f) If your system has display problems, but meets the stated system requirements, and you have obtained the most recent drivers, you can try the following: Modify the file "qtw.ini" located on your hard drive in the Windows directory. If the file does not contain the following two lines, add them to the file and restart Windows: [VIDEO] Optimize=Driver If this fails, you should try replacing the word "Driver" with "BMP" (do not enter the quote marks). You can also try "RAW" or "DIB" in place of "Driver". h) If you have a problem which you have not been able to resolve, try re-installing the 1995 Guinness Multimedia Disc of Records. i) Run README.EXE located on the "1995 Guinness Disc of Records" CD in a directory called QTW20. The README contains information on QuickTime, including a list of incompatible hardware and instructions on how to modify your QTW.INI file. 2. Problems with specific video cards ------------------------------------- a) ATI Mach64 video card Users of this video card may encounter problems with QuickTime. This can be resolved by adding a line to the [macx] section of your SYSTEM.INI file. The line you add to the [macx] section should read: DeviceBitmap=OFF b) Trident and Headland Technologies VGA cards Modify the file "qtw.ini" located on your hard drive in the Windows directory. If the file does not contain the following two lines, add them to the file and restart Windows: [VIDEO] Optimize=BMP 3.
