Deneba Software Press Release
Canvas 5 captures 'Best of Show' award at COMDEX
Byte Magazine names Deneba Software's Canvas
5 the Best New Application in annual competition for new products introduced
at COMDEX computer expo
(COMDEX EXPO, LAS VEGAS, Nov. 15, 1995) -- Canvas 5, a revolutionary,
integrated graphics program developed by Miami-based Deneba Software, was
honored with the award for the best new application software product at
COMDEX, the world's largest computer exposition, held annually in Las Vegas.
Canvas 5 won the Best of Show award in the competition sponsored by Byte
Magazine and Softbank, producer of COMDEX. Canvas 5 is the COMDEX Best of
Show winner in the Application Software category, which encompasses all
types of mainstream business programs, including word processors, spreadsheets,
page layout, database, and image editing programs. The honor is especially
significant this year, when COMDEX is the showplace for 7,000 innovative
new products designed to work with Microsoft's Windows 95 operating system.
"The judges recognized that Canvas 5 is more than just a great product,
it's a breakthrough application that smoothly integrates image editing,
vector drawing, text, and page layout capabilities - features that have
never been available in one program at any price," said Deneba Software
president, Manny Menendez.
"Canvas has always been a market leader in terms of integration, innovation,
and value," said Doug Levy, Deneba's vice president of corporate communications.
"The Byte-Softbank award honors the fact that Canvas 5 represents a
giant leap forward. It's the first product that brings together in one program
all the features that designers, desktop publishers, graphic artists, production
artists, and communications professionals need to get their work done."
Canvas 5 is the next-generation version of Canvas, an award-winning program
first released in 1987 for Macintosh. Canvas is now available for systems
running Mac OS, Windows 3.x, Windows 95, and Windows NT. Canvas 5 will be
available soon in Macintosh and Windows versions for a suggested retail
price of $599.
Canvas was developed by Deneba Software and is marketed around the world
in 7 languages. Canvas has more than 500,000 users working in a wide range
of business, education, and government disciplines, including architecture,
astronomy, cartography, engineering, forensic science, marketing, graphic
design, industrial design, law, medicine, and publishing.
This year's COMDEX new product competition is the seventh annual event sponsored
by Byte, an internationally-published monthly computer magazine. Byte magazine's
editors selected Canvas 5 for the Best of Show award from among more than
7,000 new products. Awards were presented in 12 categories, which included
operating systems, Internet and other connectivity applications, printers,
and multimedia hardware. The Best of Show winners were announced at the
Las Vegas Convention Center by Byte's editor-in-chief, Rafe Needleman.
