Virus-Farm!!! v1.00 (C) 1992 Ed T. Toton III All Rights REserved. Welcome to Virus-Farm. This is a game in which all the players are computer viruses competing for control of the computer. The players will communicate using the READ and WRITE commands, while trying to out-smart each other in a battle of strategy. The viruses have access to the command parser for this wimpy operating system that resembles DOS. You may run some programs, although most of them won't work. Any file ending in 'TXT' can be read. The game works as follows. Each player is a virus. You can infect files using the INFECT command. At first you will be unable to run certain programs or use various commands. As you progress in the game, these things will become available. As to which commands you can use, that is determined by your level. Your level increases as you gain experience. You get experiance by infecting files. Some files are more valuable than others (see section "file-value" below). You will also have to deal with Energy. It takes energy for viruses to fight one another! So when you infect a file, you must give some of your energy to the new virus you just made, so that it can defend itself. Likewise, you will need to use energy to kill other viruses. The rate at which your energy replenishes is also determined by the amount of files you have infected. Your score controls both your energy regeneration and you experience. Both of these things go up ONLY on the days that you play! (and only once per day at most!) When you log on to the game for the first time in a day, your score is totalled by adding the values of all the files on the hard drive that are still infected by YOU. Without infected files, you get no energy or experience. Keeping files infected is just as important as infecting them the first time around!! (Infecting a file gets you it's full value in experience, and keeping it gets you 1 point per day). The scoring system is as follows: Value of file = filesize/65536 [rounded up] (remember that 65536 = 64k) The value is then mulitplied by 3 if it is either a COM or EXE file. (Executable files are FAR more beneficial to viruses). The value is then mulitplied by 2 if it is either a BAT or SYS file. (These are a little more beneficial to viruses than data and text). The value is then doubled if it is also COMMAND.COM. NOTE- Everytime you run a program that is infected by SOMEONE ELSE, the infection gains 1 point of energy. Good luck!! I hope the rest of the game is fairly self-evident!
