Alseides (Beterugiasu)

Note: In Greek mythology, Alseides (transliterated as Alseids in English) were nymphs who lived in the groves (alsos). The initial rough sketch for the then unnamed enemy mecha was drawn by Escaflowne co-creator Shouji Kawamori, and then was vastly revamped by mechanical designer Kimitoshi Yamane. In Katsu-Aki's shounen manga version, that rough design is used as the basis for the early enemy mecha instead of the anime's final design for the Alseides. (They are also called "invisible devils"/"mienai majin" by the people of Gaea in his manga instead of "invisible giants"/"mienai kyojin.") The anime's final design for the Alseides later appears (with some modifications) in Katsu-Aki's manga under the new name "Beterugiasu."
