Amigazone Now Open And Running On Calweb Internet Services
From Harv Laser, Amiga Industry Legend
As many of you know by now, Portal shut down all of its Internet
services permanently on Oct. 8th, 1996. (This is detailed
on my web site at http://www.amigazone.com/).
I moved the AmigaZone from Portal, where it lived for five years,
to CalWeb and we are now open, up and running with a new interface
which has a LOT more features than Portal ever had.
Here's what $19.95/month gets you:
- Unlimited access to the AmigaZone. 24 hours every day. Log
in as much as you want and get everything we have. No extra-cost
areas ever.
- Over 25,000 files are now online with more coming. We have
five gig of disk and a seven-disc CD ROM changer online.
- All the AmigaZone message bases have been recreated.
- Amiga mailing lists will soon feed into their own message
bases so you don't have to clutter your email with them.
- We feed in all the Amiga Usenet newsgroups and have them set
to a 30 day expire. So there are always thousands of Amiga postings
online at any given time.
- You can read stuff interactively online or you can download
mail and news and postings in ".qwk" packets and read
them off line using lovely software such as "Q-Blue"
and others.
- You can telnet or rlogin to "amigazone.com" from
anywhere.
- You get a new email address of "yourname@amigazone.com".
Did you ever want an address with the word "Amiga" in
it? Well now you can have one.
- You can not only download from our interface directly but
paying users can also download from our private FTP site using
the FTP tools of your choice.
- We have live, nightly interactive chats every night of the
week. On Sundays we give away Amiga prizes. Not cheap junk either.
I've given out prizes for the past TWO HUNDRED Sundays in a row
to hundreds of folks. (Prizes are donated by various Amiga- supporting
companies.. see details on the web site). Someone is guaranteed
to win a prize every Sunday. CD ROMs. Kewl Amiga software
packages. (You must be present online to win...your chances of
winning are determined by how many people are in chat with you
and the outcome of a random chance dice roll command).
- Your $19.95/month also gets you an unlimited use CalWeb UNIX
shell account with all the usual shell tools (email, news, ftp,
telnet, you-name-it) and 10 meg of free storage. You can host
your own Web site there. CalWeb's Web server is fast. Try www.amigazone.com
and judge for yourself.
- Sign up is FREE. You pay nothing to join. You can bill to
major credit cards or be invoiced in the mail monthly. Same price.
If you want into the Zone, just phone 1-800-509-9322 or 1-916-641-9320
and say "AmigaZone sent me."
CalWeb has live human beings in their office 24 hours a day, seven
days a week. NO voicemail-from-hell system to navigate. Your account
will be open and accessible to you within 24 hours of joining.
Again, there is a ton of additional info on the AmigaZone web
site.
Amiga support has been diminishing everywhere the last few years.
Magazines have vanished. User groups have shut down. Dealers have
boarded up. Sysops on other systems have slacked off or cut back
on services.
I am totally dedicated to providing the best possible online
Amiga support anywhere. But it won't work without your participation.
Isn't a service like this worth $19.95 a month?
You be the judge.
Regards,
Harv Laser
