I've been a graduate student in études anglaises at the Université de Montréal for the past three years. I graduated in October 1995 with a Masters in English Literature. But now I'm done and free to look for worthwhile employment. Recently, I've done some work on and through the net -- some freelance writing for a software development company or two. I've also been helping spud get the Rhythm Activism pages up. They'll be appearing soon here on nothingness.org (keep an eye out for /music/rhythm)! So, instead of diving right into the real world, I'm even further embroiled in the virtual world than I was before. And that's saying a lot.
I look like this, sort of. What that photo doesn't show is that, in August, I succumbed to a fierce desire to get myself a razor cut. I can't believe how much I like it -- and I cannot believe how many people have said things along the lines of "boy, you're really lucky your head is nice!". Other than that very brief physical description, what and who I am is difficult to describe without designating labels to myself and my beliefs. Suffice to say that my beliefs and desires are diverse and convoluted.
What I'm interested in is far easier to explain: computers (the geek of the department and more geeky than most of my friends), books (both reading them and their physical nature -- production and design (see my thesis for more information...coming soon.)),and socialising in cafés when I have the time and can drag myself away from my computer.
Gardening is one of those favorite things to do. I had nothing more than a few pathetic sun-scorched roof-top things last summer, at the moment buried in snow. Last autumn saw a new garden enter my life, albeit briefly... that satisfied a small itch -- for now. Hopefully, this coming summer will see a real garden enter my life -- it's time to find a new apartment. Some day soon, I will add a little glossary of favorite things that grow well in Montréal, as well as short synopses of them with photos.
If you'd like to know more about what I sometimes write about -- in a casual way, that is -- check out the Future Culture archives on Marius' homepage, the new FC archive/homepage at xtc.net or check here for some other more academic writings.
I'm in love with a man in Baltimore whom I call
spud, as does everyone else. He's my geekdom mentor; soon, he and his technical arsenal and cat
join the crew here!
