============================================================================== Hi C64 lovers ! :) In cooperation with Gore/Future Crew we created a demo version of C64S with contributions from Assembly '94 competitions. Although C64S still won't run all demos correctly due to fastloader and some synchronization problems we feel it is a great idea to distribute the best C64 demos this way for many reasons: - ex-C64 freaks now living with PCs can check some of the latest C64 stuff - CD-ROM is a great distribution media - everyone still having a C64+1541 can transfer the images to 1541 disks and enjoy a native show - the demos show many of the C64S capabilities, note that C64S development is still in progress; future versions will provide better emulation, read end of this file if you want to contribute ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Notes on C64S usage: 1. I got the files in C64 ZipDisk archives. They were unpacked on a C128D+ 1541+1571 combo and transferred to PC with C64S's COM1541 utility. It seems the files were not affected in any way but I cannot guarantee it. I didn't try to transfer them back to C64 to check them again. 2. I hope you are familiar with C64S. If you're not there's a comprehensive C64S.DOC file. Read it to learn more about C64S. 3. All the Assembly '94 files are in *.D64 disk image files. To use them with C64S you need to: - run C64S - press F9 - press Alt + D - select the .D64 file and press enter - in the disk directory select the C64 file - press L to Load+Run - watch, listen to, enjoy, adore... - press Ctrl-Break to exit C64S (unregistered version allows only one autoload and no reset) 4. Important: - when you notice DISK IO banner, hold down ESC to exit DISK IO mode, the demo has crashed due to fastloader problem (try it on real C64) - if the screen is black when you start the emulator, run CONFIG and change video mode to Compatible. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Notes on muzax: Most C64 tunes will sound ok. But you are strongly recomended to play them on a Gravis UltraSound (GUS or GUS MAX) card for superior 44.1 kHz 16 bit wavetable quality. Notes on grafix: The pixies that don't use FLI mode will look ok. However most FLIs still have some problems with synchronization. I know exactly what the problem is, but I'm still working on a piece of code that will solve the problem and won't take too much time. Expect the solution in the forthcoming versions of C64S. Notes on demo disks: 1. AOS3.D64 - when the DISK IO banner appears, hold down ESC until it disappears, then re-run the emulator and load the next part from the disk - sprites in Vector City have a few holes due to C64S - music in Fractal Zoomer is a bit off 2. WORLDOFC.D64 - you can only run the intro part due to fastloader problems - press ESC to break DISK IO in the beginning - the intro will show, you will hear some music and I'm afraid this is all that can be emulated 3. BESTOF3N.D64 - full width scrollers are broken - most plasmas don't work - sometimes you need to press Alt or Fire to go on 4. ANTICLUN.D64 - only the intro will work - when the CPU JAM message appears it reaches the end sadly - check Opera Omnia on this disk, it's a nice collection of C64 tunes ============================================================================== The following is original Assembly '94 C64 Top Chart as received from Assembly organizers. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Here are the results for Assembly '94 C64 competitions. Read REGISTER.DOC to find out more about registering. C64S emulator is being developed constanlty. However fastloaders are still not supported due to lack of documentation on 1541 internals. If you are/were a C64 coder/hacker and you keep such type of info in your files, drawers or under bed, you can contribute importantly by sending the info to me. Anything will do: diagrams, chip diagrams, pieces of fastloader code, slick tricks... Please post any such info to: Miha Peternel, Pot v Bitnje 66, SI-64000 Kranj, Slovenia or email to: miha@hermes.si miha@abm.gn.apc.org ds@seattle.wa.com or via Fido-Net: Miha Peternel @ ABM BBS (2:380/102) Regards, Miha Peternel
