  APPENDIX C. CONFIGURATION DATA

There are certain settings in SDES which can be changed by the user, which
get saved to disk in a file called SDES.CFG as soon as you exit. Some
examples include the ansi OUTPUT OPTIONS, and the colours used when you
  invoke the SHADE BORDER option.

When SDES is started, it first looks for this config file in the current
directory - if there isn't one, it then looks in the directory that the
executable file (SDES.EXE) is stored. If it can't find one there either
  then it creates one there.

Using this method, you can run SDES from anywhere, and the same config
file will be used to store your settings. However, if you need to use a
special set of options when SDES is run from a particular directory, then
you can copy SDES.CFG into that directory, and any modifications you make
will only apply to that copy if SDES is run from that directory.
