Credit where credit is due ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ First and foremost, let me thank Bob Dolan who wrote the installation program being used here. He won't win any awards for the obligatory snazzy bells and whistles... but it gets the job done very well and in the spirit of shareware he has made it free to shareware authors. Thank you Bob. I highly recommend you at least give it a look for your own use. You can get ahold of Bob on CIS at 71075,3256. Look for InstallWare to download the installer, for your own look see, from WINSDK. Parting Comments ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Second, thank you for taking the time to look at LottoMan. I hope that you will find it of benefit to yourself... Scott Piel Lighthouse Engineering Troubleshooting ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ =================================================== OBJECT WINDOWS EXCEPTION - WINDOW CREATION FAILED =================================================== If you get a message while trying to run LottoMan which indicates an Object Windows Exception that a window creation failed, this is dues to an improperly installed copy of the file BWCC.DLL. This file is provided as a standard library file by Borland International. Their standard for using the file states that it should be installed in the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. However, for some reason many programs install this file in the \WINDOWS directory instead. If you get this error, you can be nearly certain a program has installed an older version of this file (than the one shipped with LottoMan) in the \WINDOWS directory. To fix this problem, run the File Manager program that comes with Windows. Choose the File/Search menu option. In the box labeled "Search For" type in BWCC.DLL and type a single backslash (\) in the "Search From" box. Make sure the "Search All Subdirectories" option is checked and click on OK. File Manager will search your entire system for copies of BWCC.DLL and list each copy it finds. Once you know where all the copies are, copy the most recent one to the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory (unless the one LottoMan put there is the newest) then delete all other copies. This will *not* bother any of your existing programs since Windows will take care of finding the file for them. =================================================== CTL3DV2.DLL IS NOT PORPERLY INSTALLED =================================================== If you get this message when you first run LottoMan, you have a problem similar to the one just discussed. For what it is worth, the program will work fine without this file... it only affects the appearance of the dialogs and controls. However, to fix the problem run the Windows File Manager program and select the File/Search menu option. Enter the file name CTL3DV2.DLL in the "Search For" box and a single backslash (\) in the "Search From" box. Make sure the "Search All Subdirectories" option is checked and click OK. As before, copy the most recent version you find to the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory and delete all other copies. Again, this will not hurt other programs. CTL3DV2.DLL is a standard library file supplied by MicroSoft which gives programs that nice three dimensional look. As with BWCC.DLL, this file must be installed in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory and there may not be more than one copy on your computer.
