Dear TAP, Free Envelopesl The Banks in Penn and Grand C-ntr~! Stations in NY and in many other cities(lhke Bostor~) h~ve free envelopos for decos~tors who use a Bank Cbar~e card. Insertin: the credit card-sized Bank card ~nto a slot in a panel pops out an envelope. The l~tches are purel~r mech- anical and any credit card will yield an envelope. These machines are found wLerever banks have remotely locabed deposit booths, preferably unrnanned. Dear TAP, -H. GORDON LID3Y- Con Ed issues two "FINAL" notices of serv~ce suspension. The blue one is the first. Ignore the shutoff date. The red notice is the real one. When the blne one arrives, phreaks have been known to write to Con Ed, clatming that they'll be moving info the apartment & wish to have Con Ed service turned on in their name. A deposit is likely to be extorted. However, service is to be billed to ~ phoney person. The bl~e shutoff not~ce is voided as Con Ed switches serv~ce to the new resident. Except for the deposit, the phrealc re- fuses to pay any more. So, a blue notice e~rentually comes. The phrealc then uses a new r~ame & has service ''started'' for the new resident. Except for the deposit, no more money is paid. When the blue notice arrives, a new resi- dent moves in.... Telephone d~al locks have been circumvented ~y l) Un- screwing the two screws on the bottom of the phone and removing the case, 2) Loosening the screw tbat holds the finger-stop(see diagram below) and 3) Dialing numbers by stopping at the point wLere the finger-stop used to be before you rewoved it. Ihis is easier than tapping out the number ~n the switchhook (And less obvious than just ber~ding the finger-stop out of the way with a pliers). ~DIA L/~// \ EINGER STOP ~WI SCREW \~) ~ Blue Boxing: 800 and long-distance information present some dangers wLen boxing since these are recorded or supervised. Are you overlooking the obvious? That is, dialing a nearby area code which ~s a toll line(eg. in N. Y. calls to 914, 201 and 516 from 212 do not count as toll calls and can't be 2600'd. Parts of 203 (Conn. ~ can be offed. Get a phone book to find out the nearest beepable exchange. Thus, although giving PA BELL some cash, it is completely foolproot, since we're only billed to the r~ear- by toll number and not the final destination. /(This method still has dan~ers if usod from a home phone. Using it from a p~y phone is much safer, and with a red box, cheaper! ) Sunday N. Y. Times ''Travel & Reso~ts'' section ~s pages of ads for Elorida hotels w~th 800 numbers- in case you need them (And WATS information is 800-~55-1212~. Chem~stry- Would-be amateur underground chemist~ should exercise extreme caution in ordering chemicals & reagents, which althongh legal to possess, bring down Fed. or local investigations Example-A friend ordered ordered a chemical descmbed in an underground manual as the last stsp in synthesiz~ng mescaline. He had it sent to a valid & official laboratory adUress, b~t had no ex- planation for why he ordered it. Always have an excuse or non-tr~ccable address. He was busted for "synthesizing a controlled drug'~. -NEW YORK- )254 1 ~Ä- -e Dear TAP, H~vina ~vorked a few years in the ccin machine ~ndustry I think I can give much valuable inforrr.ation on certain typos of vending machines. The easiest trpe of machine to hit is the pinb~ll aame. The front door of those rr.achines can be easily pcpped open and the cash box removed. Surprisinol quite often enough it is unnecessary to pop it open. Any straight~looking dude can buy Ise~s from Wurlitzer Thes keys will open the majority of machines in the I1. Y. are To purchase these keys it is necessary to ask by number. The following keys are for games: 1093,11~3,115o, 1350, 2255,12:34. Ihese keys wilL open almost all pool table drawers which will enable you to play for free. Pool tabl~ quite often have an alarm on them which consists of a bell battery and a swiLch so observe carefully when yo~ open them. Pool table cash boxes are usaally master locks and are a job to break open. Juke bozes also use a master loc~ to lock up cash bot conta~n records which can be easly re- moved. Ihe proper keys for juXeboxes can be obtained on lOth Ave. The majority of ccin machine companies are be- tween 40 and 44 st. The only other is Wurlitzer at 1161 Rogers Ave. Juke Box keys are brQken down by Corp. #'s: Wurlit~er:RW 95, RW 100) RW105, RW 110. Seeburg:264, 278, 314, 33G, 3407 291, 2'J3, 205 AMt C70A, C25G, RI30;3 Rock-Ola: 486, 592, 593 Juke Boxes are never alarmed and in the newer or.es the ampllfier and other digital parts are well worth it. Ihe on,ly other machlne worth breaking into are the TV games. Steal both the TV and the circuit board. Any friend who knows TV Will be able to restore the TV to operating cond- ition and the circuit board has dozens of usetul ICs(7400). Try the following keys in the back doors:8013 and $114 from Wurlitzer plus the game keys listed above. Cigarette mach- ines have individual keys and are often alarmed. Try a Rowe 87 Key (Ace) available frum Simon on 10th Ave. Ihat's about all I can tell you. -NEW YORK Dear TAP, Thonght I'd write and tell the rest of Pnreakdom about a techn~ue for tapping neighbor's phone lines ~at I used to use, for whatever it's worth. Ihe problem with a direct tap is tbat sooner or later, some phor~e compan;y ~ s going to.come and check the line. To malce it indetecta~le: We are going to use the 2 spare wires of the 4- wire cable runni~ to your phonetusu~y yellow & black). First locate your c~ble and ~e tsppee's cable in the m~in box for your apartment. (A phone with clip leads will help). Then trtm to length and strip the ends of the 2 wires. They should be just long enough to reach ~e brminals of the other phone wi~h NO slack. l~he wires should then be at- ~ched to the terminals jost loose enough so tbat they pull off eastly. Straighten and strip some of the other cables' yellow and black wires too so that your's won't look difEerent later. Then run a big wire (12 gauge house wire is fine) under your utires as sho~n. Close the box lid as tight as possible and k~ist the' wire ends toge~er as shown. Now when the box is opened the wires will be ripped loose. Ihe Foneperson w~ not cut the outside wire befare opening it up because the whole thing might f~ll apart. With a DPDT toggle swit~h (and line relays, recorders, etc. ) you ~y now ~eely use the line. A BB will be safe and cause no charge to the other party's Line-Ed. I bnilt the Red Bo~c from your last issue and lL~ce it. Ihe two diodes feeding ~e 500K pots for 5½ and 109 aren't needed. I'm also doing research on bank machines and ''money cards". ~f I can crack thew code on the cards and rewrite them it could be good for $1000 a day. I will appreciate any help on this (bank employees could rea~y help). -INDIANA
