How do I fix the broken statue?

This is a fairly complex puzzle, so I've broken the hints down into three
parts, to save people the trouble of scrolling through hints that they might
not need.  You should have 5 items at the bottom of the screen when you look
at the inside of the statue.  If you don't have these items, look at the
first question.  The second question covers the basics on how to get the
statue working, and the third tells you exactly how to open the door.
