It was originally planned as a simple exercise in vectored thrust and spacecraft movement that behaved as actual spacecraft would, drifting instead of stopping if the pilot isn't thrusting. version 1 was released in mid 1997, by which time I had become a member of Ben Blazely's company, Cyvoc Studios. The first scenario was released at the same time as the game. Version 2.0 was released in late 1997. More scenarios were released at the same time. They are available from the Cyvoc Studios web site: www.cyvoc.home.ml.org The scenario editor is also available for download. Version 2.1 was released in early 1998, when several bugs were discovered in version 2.0. BEYOND is freeware: use it all you like, give it to all your friends, make lots of copies, I won't complain. However, I would like to hear from you if you like/dislike BEYOND and why. Also, if you find any bugs (Actually they're undocumented features). I'd also like to know how much interest there is in the scenario editor. So, if you're interested, contact me. You can reach me through E-mail. (mhorton@vision.net.au) Note: you can get help on the game by viewing the files flight.txt (for general flight help) landing.txt (for planetary view help) and talking.txt (for help on talking to people) These can be accessed during the game by pressing F1 while in the appropriate place. You can access help specific to the scenario by pressing F2 while in flight. THE CREDITS CONCEPT - David & Michael Horton DESIGN - David & Michael Horton PROGRAMMING - Michael Horton SPECIAL EFFECTS - Michael Horton COMPOSER - Michael Horton GRAPHICS ROUTINES - Asphyxia SOUND ROUTINES - Antares CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM - David Horton & Luke Vos SPECIAL THANKS - Ben Blazely TECHNICAL PROBLEMS BEYOND requires a VGA or better screen, at least 400K low memory, a mouse and a 75Mhz or better CPU. The music requires an Adlib sound card or better. IF THESE REQUIREMENTS MAKE NO SENSE TO YOU If you bought your computer during or after January 1996, it will probably run BEYOND fairly well. If you bought your computer before that time, it will run BEYOND poorly or not a all. If there is an LED display on the front it should read at least 75 for BEYOND to run acceptably. If BEYOND locks up or crashes during startup, make sure that the mouse is active. If it keeps crashing, try running the batch file NOSOUND, which runs BEYOND without the music. If BEYOND 'crashes' during normal flight, or if it brings up a file error, it probably means there is an error in the scenario you're running. Contact the scenario designer and tell them about it. If the title sequence works but you get the message 'There are no files with the extension *.BSC in the current directory' you do not have any scenario files installed. DISCLAIMER The author of this program is not responsible in any way for damages occuring to you or your computer through the use of BEYOND or the BEYOND scenario designer. (Sorry about that, but I had to say it.)
