PMS Pictures - Music - Sound by ACCIDENTAL SOFTWARE (If it's good, it's ACCIDENTAL) Copyright (C) 1996, 1997 all rights reserved Our Home Page address is "http://www.accidental.com" Overview. 1. PMS is a great program for developing and showing a computer, image based presentation when operating in the Presentaion Mode. This mode allows the user to individually step forward and backwards through a slide show. Change slide shows at will, and select music from any slide show. Documents associated with each picture can be shown with a simple mouse movement. An easily accessed "Presentaton Menu" provides flexibility and and unlimited possibilites for your presentations. Wave files developed and recored by the user can be associated and played with pictures if desired. 2. PMS is a screen saver and image viewer for windows that can use your own images and midi or wave files when operating in the Screen Saver mode. PMS can play music from a CD-ROM. Music can play as pictures are being displayed. You can select Password protection if desired. Messages can be left on the screen. 3. PMS can be installed as a standard Window's Screen saver from the Window's desk top, or can be used from the Program Group that PMS makes for windows. PMS can be used as both. 4. PMS can be used as a screen saver and/or an image viewer. If you have installed PMS as a screen saver, and want to use it from the program manager to leave a message or make your system password protected while you have to be temporarily away, you can do this by double clicking the PMS Icon. If PMS is running from the program manager, it will not invoke itself as a screen saver even if the amount of time has passed to call it as a screen saver from the desktop. 5. PMS is ideal for corporations that need a screen saver that can use their own pictures or corporate logos. It is also ideal for users who want a way to display their own images (regardless of format) as a screen saver or as a stand alone program. 6. PMS is shipped with CSA, the Calendar - Scheduler - Alarm utility from Accidental Software. This utility provides a quick reference calendar and scheduler. It also allows you to Set an alarm so that items will pop up on your screen when the specified date and time are reached. NOTE: Touch Start must be running for the alarm portion of this application to function. See How do I use the program from the Windows Program Manager (#4.) below for information on how to active Touch Start each time windows is started. Trouble shooting. 1. In some cases, if you are using a program that is accessing or using a DLL or other file that PMS uses and installs, you may receive a message during installation that warns you that a file can not be installed since it is already in use by your system. You can choose Ignore to this warning and the program should install correctly. Known program limitations: 1. PMS requires that approximately 60% of windows system recources are free if you are attempting to use JPG compressed pictures. If the program behaves irratically or doesn't show your JPG pictures correctly, insure system recources are at or above 60%, check About. How do I make PMS the active screen saver? 1. Select "yes" to the inquiry during installation that asks if you want PMS to be installed as the current screen saver. This will place PMS as the current screen saver on your system with a 5 minute time of inactivity to start the program. The 5 minute "time out" will not take effect until windows has been exited and reentered after PMS installation. 2. You can select Saver Set Up from the Miscellaneous menu to access the Saver Set Up utility in the program. Turn the PMS screen saver function on or off as well as selecting the amount inactive keyboard or mouse time before the screen saver portion of the program starts. Once the Icon has been copied to the Start Up Program Group, highlight the Start Up Groups Touch Start Icon, then select Properties from the Program Manager's File Menu. Alternately, you can move the mouse to the right top corner of the screen to activate windows write or wordpad to show your document. Any document you wish to show must be named with the first portion of the file name as your picture, and the last 3 letter (file extension) must be WRI. The WRI file for a picture must be located in the same directory as the picture file it supports. 5. Additional information is available on the Presentation Mode by selecting Info from the Mode menu choice, or by selecting Info from the Presentation Menu. A manual detailing the mode choices is available from the Help menu by selecting Manual. How to use Sequenced Wave, and what is it. 1. Sequenced Wave is a term used to describe Wave files that are recorded by the user for individual pictures. When sequenced wave is selected with the Screen Saver mode, the wave file for each picture plays, then the time selected for sequencing to the next picture starts. In the Presentation mode, the wave file for the picture plays, but the next picture is not placed on the screen until the proper mouse button or keyboard key is seleced. See the Mode, Info menu choice for a details concerning keyboard keys and mouse button interface with this mode. When auto is selected from the Presentation Menu, the pictures are sequenced as in the Screen Saver (pictures) mode. 2. Sequenced Wave files must be recorded by the user for each designated picture. A sequenced wave file is tagged to a particular picture by the wave file name. The first part of the picture name is used as the first part of the sequenced wave file name. The file extension must be ".WAV". Example - You have recorded a wave file for the picture "HORSE1.BMP" that you have selected to use in Slide Show #1. You then record a wave file with information about the HORSE1.BMP. The wave file must be named "HORSE1.WAV" and it must reside in the same directory as the HORSE1.BMP file. If these guide lines are followed, each picture can have an associated wave file that will play if sequenced wave is selected. If sequenced wave is selected and no associated wave file is found by PMS, the picture is displayed in the normal manner. Additional Services from Accidental Software: 1. Site licenses are available.
