Five weapon levels. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ This Scarab demo provides you with two executables. SCARABX.EXE - this executable runs in DirectX 3 or better ONLY. You need DirectX version 3 installed on your system to run this. Double-click this file to run the game in DirectX. SCARAB.EXE - this executable will run with or without DirectX on your system. The demo will function the same, except you will not be able to play multiplayer games. Double-click this file to run the game on a machine without DirectX. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The following information is for creating, connecting, and playing multiplayer games. STARTING A MULTIPLAYER GAME This demo only supports 2 player multiplayer. The full version will support up to 6 players. To start a Multiplayer game, follow these steps: Select MULTIPLAYER from the Mission screen. The Set Network Provider screen appears. ** SET NETWORK PROVIDER SCREEN ** Note: To return to the Missions screen at any time, click the CANCEL box. 1. Select the type of Multiplayer connection you want. The choices are: Internet TCP/IP, IPX, Modem, and Serial. ** TCP/IP: You need to be currently connected to your internet provider before running Scarab to be able to play over the internet. Connect first, then run Scarab. You will see three buttons, and two modifiable fields. Enter your player name in the "Your Name" field, then do one of the following: 1. CONNECT - Click the CONNECT button to Join a game already created, by connecting to a host machine. Enter the IP address of the host machine you are connecting to, or click "OK" to search. Next, the "Select Game Session" window will appear. Select the game you want to join from the list of available games, or click "Check Again for More Games", and click "Join Game". The Chat screen will appear once you've selected a game to join. See below for information on the Chat Screen. 2. CREATE - To create a multiplayer game and become the host, enter a name for the game you're creating in the "Game to Create" field. Also enter your player name in the "Your Name" field if you haven't already done so. Then click the CREATE button. The Chat screen will then appear, where you wait for other players to connect to your game, and set up the game parameters. See below for information on the Chat Screen. ** IPX: Choose this type of connection to play over a Local Area Network. You need to be actively connected to the network before running Scarab. Follow the same steps as TCP/IP to connect with IPX, except it is not necessary to enter the IP address of the host machine when joining a game. You are taken right to the "Select Game Session" screen after clicking "CONNECT". ** MODEM: Select Modem connection to play against a friend over the modem. CONNECT - Enter your player name in the "Your Name:" field. Click the "Connect" button takes you to the "Modem Connection Screen". Select your modem from the list, and enter the phone number you want to dial, then click the "Connect" button to dial. After connecting, select the game you want to join and click "Join Game", at which point you will be put into the Chat screen. See below for information on the Chat Screen. CREATE - Enter the name of the game you want to create in the "Game to Create:" field, and your player name in the "Your Name:" field. Click the "Create" button to be the host of the game. This takes you to the "Modem Connection Screen". Click "Answer..." to put your modem into auto-answer, and wait for the other person to call. After connecting, you will be put into the Chat screen, where you set up the game parameters. See below for information on the Chat Screen. ** Serial: Select Serial connection to play on two machines connected with a serial cable. CONNECT - Enter your player name in the "Your Name:" field. Click the "Connect" button takes you to the "Serial Connection" screen. Choose the COM port that the serial cable is connected to. Change the "FLOW" setting to "NONE" and click OK. When connected, select the game you want to join, and click "Join Game" The Chat screen then appears. See below for information on the Chat Screen. CREATE - Enter the name of the game you want to create in the "Game to Create:" field, and your player name in the "Your Name:" field. Click the "Create" button takes you to the "Serial Connection" screen. Choose the COM port that the serial cable is connected to. Change the "FLOW" setting to "NONE" and click OK. The Chat screen then appears to wait for the other player to connect. See below for information on the Chat Screen. ** CHAT MODE SCREEN ** The Chat Mode screen has all of the options and settings for your Multiplayer game. To send a message to other players: Click in the message box, type your message, and click the SEND button. To start the game, click the GO PLAY button. To return to the Missions screen, click the CANCEL button. In the "My Settings" section: To choose your Robot, click the circle next to the Robot you want. To choose the team you want to be, click Osiris or Ra. If you put yourselves on the same team, the game will force you to opposing teams once the game starts. This demo version only supports Competitive games. In the Game Creator section: Note: The player who creates the game is the only one who can change these options. Weapons level is limited to 1-3 in the demo version. Select the level of weapons you want to use. The only Battlefield available in the demo is Aswan. To select a latency for your game, click the circle appropriate circle. Select a higher latency value if your connection is slow and choppy. Lower the latency for quicker connections. When you're ready to begin the game, click on the "Go Play" button. Note: During the game a color bar may appear in the upper left corner. The larger the bar, the slower the network connection. Increase the latency speed to accommodate for this. To adjust latency speed higher/lower during a multiplayer game, press the left and right brackets [ / ] keys.
