26 September 1993, Bakewell, Derbyshire - "At 9 a.m. the activity around the Bakewell/Matlock area increased. One witness reported an object in the sky "lit up lit a huge fairground"...it was at 9.30 p.m. that further witnesses reported the shape of an illuminated triangle flying slowly and low over the town. Mrs Hilda Hill drew a sketch of the triangle as it flew overhead "slow moving and silent". Mrs Susan Shah, who lives on a hill overlooking Matlock Baths, noticed bright lights approaching her house. She opened a window to watch as the huge triangle passed "slowly and silently" overhead. A Mrs Pailing of Bakewell also saw the huge triangle and noticed that it was showing red, green and brilliant white lights. A key witness to the event was a Mr Andrews who happened to be driving in the direction of Bakewell at the time. As he approached the town he saw bright lights moving slowly and low down in the sky ahead. Then as he entered the town, he noticed people lining the side of the road, looking up and watching a huge black triangle flying low overhead. "It was lit up like a Christmas tree", commented Mr Andrews. "It had a very bright light at each corner, so bright that it illuminated the ground below. Suddenly he realised that he and the triangle were travelling in the same direction, then driving at a steady speed of 40 m.p.h. he slowly overtook it! The "Flying Triangle" then performed a series of slow "U"-turns and right angled turns, before it finally returned to it's original course and moved out of sight behind a line of trees". "A number of "Flying Triangles" had also been seen in the Essex, England area during November 1993. These included a "massive" (1.5 times the size of a soccer field) triangular object seen flying silently along the sea-front at Holland-on-Sea, on Sunday 5th November. It had a variety of coloured lights underneath with a line of red lights at the back. A number of dark "indentations" could be seen on the underside of the object including a large black circle at the centre. The estimated speed was 40/45 m.p.h. Another large black triangle was observed at 3.25 a.m. on November 18th, flying along the sea-front slightly further south, at Clacton-on-Sea. This triangle carried a series of red and white lights along the two leading edges with, once again, a series of red lights along the back edge. From SKYLINK No.9 - November 1994 Date/Time : 25/11/93 @ 00.00-01.00 Hrs Location : Winchester Road, Andover, Hants Witness : Mr B. D'aguilar Source : Andover Unexplained Phenomena Investigation Network Investigators : Mr Bill Holdway & Mr Malcolm Terry Description ----------- I was driving down the Winchester Rd towards Andover in the early morning in my taxi, when over to my right and in the area of Martins garage I saw what I took to be a U.F.O., it was shaped like a triangle and I estimated it's size as that of a helicopter. I judged the object to be about 500ft above the ground and was just hovering in the air. I stopped the car and my passenger and I got out to take a better look, we stood and watched the object for about 3 mins and then it just vanished in the direction of Clatford, we estimated it's size as between 60-80ft and with white pulsating lights. I had turned off my engine and we were able to hear a low humming noise from the U.F.O. I have never seen an object like this ever before and could not identify it with any earth created craft. Date : 25/09/94 @ 00.19 Hrs Location : Battersea, London Witness : Miss X (Identity withheld) Source : LUFOS (Main Branch) Description ----------- It was early in the morning and we were about to go to bed when my husband decided to visit our outside lavatory. When outside I looked to the South and noticed several moving lights coming towards me, at first I thought it was a plane with it's 'main-beam' lights turned off, flying through some mist. As it manoeuvred it revealed it's shape, five orange lights on a matt triangular background, I called to my husband "hurry up", he immediately sighted it and remarked "My God it must be huge". We then observed it together as it travelled silently towards the SE, many stars were visible on the night and it seemed to obliterate them from sight as it passed overhead, as observed with the naked eye. It travelled at a slow walking pace and we observed it for nearly two minutes, before it passed out of sight over nearby houses. We then ran quickly upstairs to our living room to see if we could still see it, but the glare from street lamps made it impossible. [End] "On Monday 28th November (1994) there were over 100 phone calls made to Colchester Police reporting that a strange craft was hovering at about roof height in the district. It was even reported that rush hour traffic was slowing down so that the drivers could watch the UFO. The description that all callers gave was the same: Nearly 100 ft long and bathed in an orange/red light, triangular in shape with three floodlights at the corners. An eye witness reported to the paper what he had seen: "I was driving home when I became aware of a sudden burst of light above me. I couldn't see what is was for a couple of minutes, but then it moved ahead of me and I could clearly see three bright white lights in a triangle shape. One of them was flashing every few seconds." Apparently the craft matched pace with the car he was driving in for several (subjective?) minutes after which it shot off at great speed". From: Cornishman - Penzance newspaper. Date: 6th July 1995. Manchester 'UFO' may have been seen at Penzance An unidentified flying object, which has had a "close encounter" with a passenger airliner approaching Manchester airport may also have been sighted south of Penzance. It is claimed by Penwith UFO Research that the craft was triangular in shape and marked out by three large white lights, with a red flashing light at the base. This description fits that of an object involved in the incident at Manchester. Jet fighter type aircraft were also sighted at the same time." Conventional aircraft, such as Stealth or a tanker have been ruled out by investigators. "The sighting lasted for two minutes but the main craft remained visible for up to one minute further." said Jude Colwyn, a member of the UFO research team. Sighting's of the aircraft seem to be coming more frequent and widespread with similar reports from other parts of the country and Scotland where the craft has been sighted frequently in the Bonnybridge area. Bonnybridge, Scotland - "Ray and Kathy Procek were driving along the motorway nearby...As they approached a viaduct spanning the road they say they saw an object the size of a Jumbo Jet, hovering above it. "The back end was elliptical and as we passed underneath it we could see it was triangular in shape. There was a light at each corner. We passed underneath the viaduct and looking back, there sitting on the other side was another craft and it looked like a mirror image, the way they were pointing towards each other." From: Southport Visitor newspaper. Date: Friday 8th March, 1996. MYSTERY IN THE EVENING SKIES Nigel O'Sullivan. UFOs hovering above southport left witnesses stunned this week. A number of shocked motorists have contacted the visitor to report close encounters with the unidentified flying object. ...One man was driving along Meols Cop Road at about 6pm last Friday when he came face to face with a craft hovering over a field. He said: "This thing was unreal. It was sort of triangle-shaped with a white light in each corner and a square green light in the middle. It remained motionless for at least 5 minutes. By that time several cars had stopped and the drivers and passengers were standing by their cars watching in amazement. Suddenly the object started going round the field for a minute or two, then it stopped and the lights gathered together. Now, it was just one big green light and, without warning, it just flew off." The Visitor contacted UFO expert Jenny Randles. Ms Randles is editor of "Northern UFO" magazine and has been investigating sightings of this mysterious triangular object for months. According to Ms Randles, there have been many sightings of this "craft" over Morecambe and Scarisbrick in recent weeks. She believes it is a secret Stealth aircraft being developed by British Aerospace at Warton, near Preston, but the company denies the existence of any such plane. From: Daily Mail Weekend. Date: Saturday 9th March, 1996. SO IS THERE SOMEBODY OUT THERE, AFTER ALL? They've always been dismissed as the fantasies of the soft-minded. But now a senior government official has come out and stated publicly: 'I believe in extraterrestrials.' MARY GREENE investigates why UFOs are suddenly being taken seriously in the corridors of power. It was a dark, cloudless evening in early January, and British Airways Flight 5061 from Milan was over the Pennines, coming in to land at Manchester Airport. All was going to schedule. Just another routine landing... And then it happened. First Officer Mark Stuart saw the thing first and instinctively ducked. A strange wedge-shaped object, illuminated like a Christmas tree, flashed soundlessly past the Boeing 737's starboard side. Within seconds, it had vanished, but Mark Stuart and his co-pilot Captain Roger Wills were in no doubt about what they'd seen. The two BA pilots, both sober-minded types not given to flights of fancy, had just experienced a close encounter with what has become known as the Silent Vulcan. And theirs was by no means the first encounter. Over the past ten years, the Silent Vulcan - so-called because its shape resembles the old Vulcan bomber - has apparently been stalking the skies over Europe and North America. First sighted over the USA in 1983 [Note: There are many reports from the mid-1970's - James], there have now been hundreds of reported sightings, many of them in the Pennine Corridor which runs from the Midlands up to Yorkshire. In 1990 it was spotted in Belgium and, on that occasion the Belgian air force scrambled fighter planes in a fruitless attempt at interception.
