Ley lines
Leys are essentially alignments of sacred sites and so most stone circles have leys
associated with them. The most well known of these, even called a Dragon Line by the
National Trust, is the alignment that runs from St. Michaels Mount at Penzance in Cornwall
up through Burrow Mump, Glastonbury Tor, Avebury and through to Bury St. Edmunds. It is
aligned on the cross-quarter day sunrise and sunsets. Some people connect this idea
concerning ley lines with the Chinese belief in Feng-Shui, a divination system for
landscaping, siting houses, roads etc. which takes into account the chi energy of the land.
Naturally if ancient sites are implicated in psychic events then so too are their associated
leys. 37.5% of a random sample of leys showed evidence of UFO events occurring on them
or in their immediate vicinity. A map in Paul Devereux's book "Earthlights" shows the strong
correlation between UFOs stone circles, and ley lines: UFOs tend to be seen more often in
places where there are stone circles or on the line between two circles.
Many people feel that sacred sites, beacon hills, etc. are a sort of earth acupuncture point, a
site of earth chi energy, and that ley lines are the meridian channels for this energy. This is
an analogy that I have used for many years, because it seems intuitively to fit. Thus the
ancient practice of lighting beacon fires on the beacon hills at midsummer and other sacred
days is a bit like heat acupuncture of the earths meridians. This analogy fits even better with
the recent discovery that acupuncture points can be measured on our bodies using electrical
skin resistance meters, the skin's electrical resistance at the acupuncture point differing from
the area around. And so with sacred sites, the geomagnetic force differs. This chi energy,
whatever it is, is not only linked with geomagnetic energy but also with psychic energy, and it
is a psychic force that we feel at stone circles and their associated leys. Paul Devereux is at
present exploring the idea that leys are spirit lines linked to shamanic flight paths when
people used the sacred sites specifically to induce out-of-body journeys which corroborates
this idea.
Ley lines have a spiritual significance, in as much as there is a feel about them which lifts the
spirits, which makes you gasp in wonder, which makes you feel good. They give you the feel
that you could walk along them with seven league boots. Because presumably the Neolithic
peoples were more in tune with the subtle earth energies, because they did not have any
form of electrical pollution such as we labour under now in the form of electric pylons, power
stations, roads, railways, television, radio waves, etc., almost ad nauseam, then they would
be far more aware of the psychic potential of these places and appear to have had a science
using this natural earth energy. I actually feel that many of the circles are places such as
Doris Lessing describes in Shikasta, places which are tuned in to stars for psychic
communication, harmony of this planets' energies for evolutionary purposes. Stonehenge is a
cosmic temple related to more than just movements of sun and moon; Callanish relates to the
whole of the moon's cycle. Barrows and tumuli seem to be psychic meditation spaces, sweat
lodges, initiation chambers, etc.
"We obscure the traces of this vital energy with pipelines, power cables and motorways,
polluting the electrical environment at what must be its most finely tuned and vital level; for
the connection between the dragon lines, the earth's magnetic field, the electric air, the
magnetic sun, draws us into the overall energy patterns of the whole cosmos, linked
electrically and magnetically through the electromagnetic vibrations of light."(Shallis, 1988,
p.188)
