The logo for Project Phoenix was designed by Ms. Lynn Beckley, a graphic artist working at Hewlett Packard. She conceived ideas for a logo after hearing a talk by Barney Oliver. Working on her own time, and interacting with Institute personnel, she developed the symbol shown above.
It represents two planetary systems in contact, against the background of empty space. The two planetary systems are shifted, mirror images of each other, thus similar yet different. Project Phoenix seeks out advanced civilizations with whom we share a knowledge of science and technology but perhaps little else.
