Statistics from One Year of HRMS Observations
Sky Survey
- 72 Sky Frames observed at 8.4 GHz
- 40 MHz, dual polarization
- volume = 37 MHz-Steradians = 3.3x10**-4 of total Sky Survey
- theoretical limiting sensitivity was achieved (.98 - 5.1 x 10**-22
Wm**-2)
- each Sky Frame required 1.5 hours to map in one polarization
- observations remoted to JPL in Jan 1993
- average of 8 hours per week of observations on 34 m BWG antenna
- 10 strongest singlets/doublets each frame were followed up in Targeted
Search mode
- 3 candidate signals reacquired in Targeted mode
- Subsequent observations demonstrated they were RFI
- 130 Maps made of 3 Galactic Plane Sky Frames at 1.7 GHz
- techniques for map addition successful
- RFI precluded achieving theoretical sensitivity
Targeted Search
- 24 Target Stars observed in 35 frequency bands each 8 MHz wide, dual pol.
- Observations lasted 299 or 92 seconds
- Observing sequence of ON-OFF-ON used throughout
- 436 successful observing sequences completed in 200 hours observing
- Hardware detectors reported:
- 3174 clustered CW signals
- 3758 clustered Pulse trains (total in all 3 resolutions)
- 291 CW bad bands
- 1282 Pulse bad bands
- Of these, most were signals seen once-and-only-once:
- 1219 signals during 92 second observations
- 1310 signals during 299 second observations
- 15 candidate signals passed ON !OFF ON test
- none of these signals survived additional confirmation observations
- RFI precluded reaching theoretical sensitivity limit (5x10**-24
Wm**-2)
except at 2380 MHz
