zip is a compression and file packaging utility for Unix, VMS, MSDOS, OS/2, Windows NT, Minix, Atari and Macintosh. The program is useful for packaging a set of files for distribution, for archiving files, and for saving disk space by temporarily compressing unused files or directories. A companion program (unzip), unpacks zip archives.
The zip program can work with archives produced by PKZIP, and PKZIP and PKUNZIP can work with archives produced by zip. zip version 2.0.1 is compatible with PKZIP 2.04.
For brief help information on zip, run the program without specifying any parameters on the command line.
All of the subsystems for this product can be installed using IRIX. You do not need to use the miniroot. Refer to the Software Installation Administrator's Guide for complete installation instructions.
This software is compatible with IRIX 5.3 and IRIX 6.1.
