  • What is GNU sed ?

    The GNU version of sed, the UNIX standard stream editor.

    Main Advantage: doesn't have the traditional UNIX limitations on input line lenght (silently truncated, horrors!).

    Main Disadvantage: it is slow. You probably want to use perl anyway.

    See the man pages for further details.

    Author's Notice(s):

    GNU packages are distributed under the FSF (Free Software Foundation) "Copyleft" which include the GPL (GNU public license) and the Library GPL.
    Before reporting a bug, please check the list of oft-reported non-bugs in the sed README file. Suggestions and bug reports for these programs can be mailed to: bug-gnu-utils@prep.ai.mit.edu. Be sure to include the word "sed" on the Subject: header line.

    Builder Notice(s):

    Built and packaged for SGI by Ariel Faigon who is afraid emails for support would have to be silently ignored. Patches and constructive suggestions for improvement are welcome.
