xv is an interactive image display for the X Window System
The xv program displays images in the GIF, JPEG, TIFF, PBM, PGM, PPM, X11 bitmap, Utah Raster Toolkit RLE, PDS/VICAR, Sun Rasterfile, BMP, PCX, IRIS RGB, XPM, Targa, XWD, possibly PostScript, and PM formats on workstations and terminals running the X Window System, Version 11.
xv is a very nifty image viewer. Not only it can view images of various file formats, it can also perform many image enhancements on them, convert them to other formats, and display them in various ways.
xv is shareware, not freeware as most of the packages here are.
See details below. For more details on the features and operation of xv, see the documentation, or just try it. It is pretty intuitive to use, and is highly recommended.
