LivingO2 is an interactive 3D tour of Silicon Graphics' O2 workstation.
Using the latest in hypermedia technology, LivingO2 combines VMRL 2.0
Moving Worlds with 3D audio and informative HTML pages to demonstrate the
powerful features of the O2. User mouse clicks trigger assembly animations, sound, and other behaviors, while showing the user valuable technical documentation on the major components.
VRML 2.0 Features LivingO2 was authored on CosmoWorlds 1.0 on Silicon Graphics workstations. Lighting is dynamic and automatically turns on or dims down depending on user proximity. Advanced lighting techniques and an ethereal soundtrack were used to convey its mood. In-scene user interface includes locate-highlight widgets that control soundtrack volume level, boot-up, shutdown, and dissolve animation sequences. All animation sequences were authored using CosmoWorlds' Keyframe Editor. The fluidity of the motion was achieved with animation curves that were later down-sampled to be Moving Worlds compliant. Real-life textures were then captured and mapped onto geometries for a photorealistic look. All logic for controlling state and animation sequencing were coded in vrmlscript. Serendipity was designed into the environment. The goal is to give the user enough control of variables to make each experience unique. As the finishing touch, pre-scripted viewpoints that highlight the must-see scenic spots were composed for that cinematic touch. |
