Working With BLOB Data

Sapphire has a group of functions which work exclusively with Sybase Binary Large OBject data types. There are no corresponding functions for Informix or Oracle LONG data types. See the following API pages in Chapter 2 for more information:

SaGetBlob - Retrieves BLOB from Sybase table
SaPutBlob - Inserts BLOB into Sybase table
SaPutBlobFromFile - Retrieves BLOB from file, storing it in Sybase table
SaGetBlobToFile - Retrieves BLOB, storing it in a separate file
SaGetBlobDone -Resets Sybase BLOB retrieval mechanism
SaBlobSetLog - enable/disable Sybase transaction logging during BLOB transfer

The following functions are useful for inserting and extracting ASCII text when dealing with BLOB data:

SaHexToAscii - convert BLOB data into ASCII text
SaAsciiToHex - convert ASCII text into hexadecimal form

: Note: BLOB data is typically a very large quantity of either text or image data. The Get/Set BLOB functions deal with both types of data, while the Hex/Asciii APIs deal only with text. Image conversion issues need to be addressed on a case-by-case basis.
