Design Principles

Sapphire/Web's design is based on the following principles:

1. Open flexible environment. This leads to the following benefits to your enterprise:

a. Sapphire/web to fits into your current enterprise without tearing everything apart and starting over.

b. Reuse of current talents and skills.

c. Quick start-up.

d. Ability to evolve applications easily as the Web rapidly evolves.

e. Use of current tools and methodologies.

f. The ability to choose the "Best of the Best" tools, and to change those with little or no changes to Sapphire applications. This is especially needed in the rapid evolution of the Web. For example, if the greatest HTML WYSIWYG editor is released tomorrow, Sapphire works with it. When the best Java development system becomes available, Sapphire works with it.

2. Standards based. This leads to the following benefits to the Enterprise:

a. Ability to run everywhere, giving the Enterprise its furthest reach.

b. Availability of a component industry.

c. Compatibility to the future.

d. Avoidance of technology "lock-in".

3. Object-oriented approach. This leads to the following benefits to the Enterprise:

a. Minimum code reuse.

b. Minimization of changes.

c. Minimum development costs.

4. A multi-tiered, multi-faceted, and multi-dimensional architecture. This leads to the following benefits to the Enterprise:

a. The lowest cost for development, deployment, maintenance, and ownership of Web applications.

b. Highest performance for the user, the network, and the server platform.

c. The highest level of scaleability. Avoids the disaster of finding out too late that the application "just doesn't scale".

d. Highest productivity solution for the end user.

5. Ease of Use through visual tool and OO approach.

a. Little or no coding produces the most scalable, and highest performance applications, even for novices.

6. Robust and secure architecture to protect the Enterprise.

7. No runtime charge. This allows for an affordable ownership costs, one that is not open ended.

8. Vision of the future. In every aspect, Sapphire is designed with a vision of the future of the Web.
