Sapphire/Web Gateways

8

The Sapphire/Web Gateway is the liaison between Data Objects and the generated Server Application executables. The Gateway is a daemon process that Server Applications connect to via remote procedure calls (RPC). It must be running somewhere on your network in order for Server Applications and Sapphire/Web to talk to Databases.

Where the Sapphire/Web Gateway Must Run

Sapphire/Web

Sapphire/Web requires a Gateway in order to process data-driven requests. The ORB must reside somewhere on your network for these requests to be processed.

Generated Server Application Executables

The Server Application also requires a Gateway unless the developer chooses a stand-alone Server Application to be generated. See "Stand-alone Server Applications" on page 8-6 for more information.

The Gateway needs to be on the same side of the firewall as the Server Application to communicate with it, unless your firewall permits RPCs to go through it.
