ATARI GAMES CHOOSES MULTIGEN
TO ENHANCE GAMING EXPERIENCE

GameGen II and MultiGen II Pro Used in Creation of SF RUSH

SAN JOSE, Calif.April 28, 1997 - MultiGen, Inc., the leader in realtime 3D authoring software, today announced that MultiGen's family of tools, is a core technology of Atari Games and their new PC game, San Francisco RUSH Extreme Racing. Tools used for the game include: GameGen II and MultiGen II Pro with the Road Tools Option. This is the fifth title announced by Atari Games that was developed using GameGen II, once again proving that it is the only 3D software which allows for multi-platform development along with the use of an Open Flight Format. SF RUSH has been available in arcades since November 1996 and will be released for the PC and Playstations in third quarter 1997.

SF RUSH offers the excitement and challenge of racing up and down the scenic, air-catching hills of San Francisco. Using realistic landmarks from this famous city, players feel the "rush" of driving up and down the steep hills and over the Golden Gate Bridge. Many of the city's world-renowned locations have been 3D modeled and photographed to create one of the best "virtual tours" of the city.

"Atari Games' innovative development of SF RUSH puts them at the forefront of the coin-op and the PC industry," said Vince Robinson, entertainment market manager for MultiGen, Inc. "Arcade players will not only enjoy more realistic and immersive game play, they will get to do so more often because Atari Games can bring new titles to market faster using MultiGen's tools."

At the heart of the game are many creative elements of realism that will make SF RUSH a mega-hit with players around the world. These include a variety of car choices, each with unique handling characteristics and exciting race course shortcuts. In this spirit of realism, they provide the standard player options, including optional automatic or 4-speed manual transmission. Players who demand the greatest racing challenge can select a clutch pedal that responds like a real clutch when the Extreme cars are selected. To round out the sensory experience, realistic audio effects include explosions, collisions, and crashes punctuated by an 8-inch woofer placed in the seat. There is also a six song player-selectable soundtrack available at the touch of a button.

"MultiGen's software enables SF RUSH to combine a level of realism and racing excitement superior to any other driving game," said Bill Hindorf, vice president of consumer product development at Atari Games. "A player taking the road won't know the difference between our RUSH game and the real thing."

MultiGen's Technology

MultiGen, Inc. and the GameGen II authoring environment provide users with the best in realtime 3D environments. The foundation of GameGenII is the OpenFlight® format. This logical Scene Description Database format contains the optimal data types, structure and logic critical to performance and interactivity.

OpenFlight®contains organizational features for spatially grouping, ordering and prioritizing your world for optimum realtime computing. OpenFlight's® structure can be tuned for different culling methodologies such as Z-buffer, Binary Separating Plane (BSP) trees or Fix listing. OpenFlight's® memory saving techniques, like model instancing and visual property palettes, are crucial to squeezing the last bit into tight memory budgets. OpenFlight® can help maximize graphics performance using LOD, model morphing and culling volume control. OpenFlight® has the power to support dynamic effects and event logic with degrees of freedom, state switching, collision volumes, flipbook animations and linkages.
