MULTIGEN APPOINTS DAVID ROLSTON
AS NEW PRESIDENT AND CEO

Former Silicon Graphics Executive Rounds Out the Management Team

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- March 18, 1997 -- MultiGen Inc., the realtime 3D company, is continuing its growth and maturity by appointing Dr. David Rolston, former Silicon Graphics Executive, as the new President and Chief Executive Officer of the company.

"David Rolston's technical and marketing expertise in advanced technologies such as interactive multimedia and 3D graphics is a critical asset to the company," said Bob Keith, co-chairman of the MultiGen board of directors and the managing director at Safeguard Scientifics, a venture capital firm. "His unique understanding of the 3D industry, along with his enthusiasm for MultiGen, will prove indispensable as we continue to spearhead the realtime 3D software market for the visual simulation, training and entertainment industries."

Rolston brings proven leadership skills and strong knowledge of the industry based on his 23 years of experience in technical and marketing management at leading high-tech corporations. He held several senior marketing and technical management positions including Director of Marketing in the Advanced Graphics Division (AGD) at Silicon Graphics (SGI). Rolston was responsible for vertical marketing, product marketing, factory control, and high-end graphics products across all markets - a $500 million dollar annual business. In addition, he was responsible for the corporate-wide marketing strategy for all defense intelligence and visual simulation activities, a $1.2 billion dollar market, and held corporate-wide responsibility for all graphics-oriented software products and API's.

"I am very enthusiastic about having Dave Rolston leading our company. His personal style and philosophical views are a strong match within the prevailing corporate culture at MultiGen," said Dennis Yeo, MultiGen founder and co-chairman. "With his significant knowledge and experience, we believe that he will solidify the company's position as the leader of the realtime 3D software markets on Silicon Graphics and NT platforms."

Before joining SGI, Rolston spent eight years with TRW/ESL, where he held a variety of high-level management and technical roles for the Advanced Technology Systems Division of ESL, a subsidiary of TRW, Inc. He helped to transition the focus of the company from defense/imagery intelligence into commercial applications and products by leading three successful ventures of ESL Technology.

Preceding ESL/TRW, Rolston was a member of the technical staff at Honeywell Information Systems for eight years, where he performed various management and technical roles. While at Honeywell, he was twice awarded the corporation's annual technical award and is the only individual in corporate history to have been nominated for a third time. He was selected as one of the three Engineering Fellows within a 6000-person technical organization, establishing him as the youngest Fellow in the history of Honeywell.

Rolston received a PhD in computer science and a MSE in industrial/management systems engineering from Arizona State University in 1993 and 1981, respectively. He also earned a BSE in civil engineering from Northern Arizona University in 1974 and is a registered professional engineer. In addition, Rolston holds several patents and has written a best-selling textbook.
