InterMail eases the burden on system managers through its scalability-fewer servers per user community to manage-and through unique features designed for rapid response to trouble situations and for continuing administration.
Heartbeat monitor
InterMail management includes a "heartbeat
monitor" for each server. This feature checks to see
if the servers are alive and well on a regular basis
(configurable). If there is an indication that a server
is not well, certain actions are taken, the most
significant of which would be a machine failover process.
Instrumentation: logging and
statistics
InterMail is very well instrumented. With a glance,
system managers can monitor the overall performance of
the system-statistics such as message throughput, mail
queue size, message store size, and many more-for
purposes of capacity planning. Also, InterMail maintains
detailed logs of server activity, an extremely important
function that allows managers to trace the steps an
individual server took to reach a certain time or
situation. These logs can also help pinpoint
configuration issues and message delivery verifications.
Administration Commands
The administration commands are command-line programs for
observing and changing the behavior of the InterMail
system. Commands are location-independent and can monitor
and control any local or remote component of the system.
