FRED

The Faceted Region EDitor (FRED) was developed by the Vehicle Survivability Division at the U.S. Army Tank-Automotive Command (TACOM) in Warren, Michigan. It has been licensed for sales and support to OptiMetrics, Inc., Ann Arbor, Michigan, a research firm specializing in image processing and vehicle signature analysis and prediction.

FRED is a major component of an end-to-end vehicle modeling capability incorporating CAD packages, thermal models, atmospheric and sensor models, and hardware-in-the-loop simulations. The program can create and manipulate faceted vehicle models. it can also read and facetize vehicles which are in the Ballistic Research Laboratory Computer Aided Design (BRL-CAD) format.
