ENVI

Given the growing volume and complexity of remote sensing imagery, earth scientists and others need increasingly powerful software tools that encourage quick data analysis and discovery. Early in 1994, Research Systems released ENVI, an image processing package written entirely in IDL that allows scientists to import, process and analyze any remote sensing data including panchromatic, multispectral, and hyperspectral imagery. Spectral libraries and spectrometer measurements are also easily processed. Unlike other commercially-available systems, ENVI includes sophisticated specialization features and an adaptable window interface that allow users to design elegant custom tools to tackle complex image processing problems.
