Contex SmartServ

Contex SmartServ is a full-featured system that offers Macintosh users a power partner for their networks. Powered by Silicon Graphics, Inc., RISC servers, SmartServ offers performance gains of 10-20 times over the typical PC user or Macintosh-based servers. Using the SGI Unix operating system, SmartServ can handle processing of multiple jobs at once: RIPing, OPI, autotrapping, and output plot queueing. SmartServ runs on the SGI Challenge server featuring 64-bit bus structure and optimized "fast and wide" SCSI disk support, and includes the industry's fastest RAID (Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks) arrays for massive on-line storage.

Data can be stored in many industry standard formats including PostScript, TIFF, Contex, Scitex Handshake, DDES, Hell, Chromalink, Scitex Native, and more. Picture replacement using industry standard OPI protocol takes place on user-defined network paths. SmartServ incorporates a PostScript Level Il configurable software RIP that accepts a standard PostScript page. SmartServ includes Contex SmarTrap, a full featured auto trapper with built in RIP and output device management.
