AFS® 3
AFS® 3 is a distributed file system for managing files in a client/server environment. With AFS, users access files located anywhere throughout a local or global network as if those files were local to the user's own machine. Users see a single, large file system without any dependencies on a file's physical location. AFS replicates important data across servers, ensuring high data availability and improving server performance by spreading data requests across multiple servers. Other important benefits include enhanced security with Kerberos authentication and access control lists, centralized administration, and transparent on-line backup and data relocation.
