Open BASIC

Open BASIC automates the migration of VAX BASIC application code from Digital's proprietary VMS environment to Open Systems. Open BASIC is a retargetable compiler that reads VAX BASIC and generates portable C source code. Open BASIC is the most portable BASIC compiler fully compatible with the features of VAX BASIC.

Open BASIC produces understandable and concise C code, preserving program structure, variable names and comments. Open BASIC translates proprietary VAX BASIC extensions without changing the functionality of the original program. Open BASIC supports the VAX BASIC runtime environment and automatically handles linking to Accelr8's Open LIBR8 runtime libraries, which include support for popular VMS features including RMS, QIO, SMG and logical names.
