eXceed/DOS

eXceed/DOS - a real or protected mode X Window server for DOS-based PCs. Up to 32 X Window client applications can be displayed in separate windows on the screen. eXceed/DOS supports a full implementation of the X Window System server and provides the dual fuvctionality of operating in either real mode (for 286 PCs) or protected mode (for 386, 486, and Pentium-based machines). Fonts can be locally viewed in the true graphic rendition and can be built automatically based on last update dates. The package supports all popular graphic card standards and chipsets. Supports up to 256 colors per color map and resolutions up to 1280 x 1024. "Escape to DOS" feature lets users switch between DOS and the server without restarting clients. 17 international keyboard mappings are provided. Includes a user friendly interactive utility for configuring the server's input, communication, video, color, and general settings. eXceed/DOS is based on the latest MIT release of X Windows, version X11R5. Includes Xtrace, a sophisticated protocol tracer to help with client debugging, and hwm, the local Motif-like window manager. Supports 22 different TCP/IP transports, plus DECnet and NetWare IPX/SPX.
