VxWorks® is the premier real-time operating system for developing complex real-time and embedded applications on a wide variety of target processors.

VxWorks is designed for scalability, with hundreds of possible configurations. At its heart is the highly efficient wind microkernel, which supports fast multitasking and both preemptive and round-robin scheduling. Intertask communication mechanisms include shared memory, message queues, pipes, sockets, RPC, and signals. Semaphores include binary, counting and mutual exclusion with priority inheritance.

VxWorks suppors a wide range of industry standards including POSIX 1003.lb Real-Time Extensions, ANSI C and TCP/IP netwroking.
