****************** Congratulations *****************
You are now the proud owner of the Interactive Skeleton Demo.
The following gives a brief outline on how to get the program to
work and is followed by some technical details for those of you
who like that sort of thing.
To work, the program requires Win32 and Quicktime for Windows.
Both of these are present on the demo disk and can be installed
separately, or simply leave the install program to install them
for you.
This demo program is a cut-down version of the full title and as such
has had many functions removed. You will be unable to access the
Index, Notes, Dissection or Professor's Tips functions.
Also, only the skull is present on the disk.
The disk also contains a flying skulls screen saver, which you can
install and enable via the Control Panel.
Optimization
--------------
The program runs best on a 800x600 monitor with colours set to 65,535 (16 bit).
If your machine isn't setup to manage either of these, not to worry.
It'll work with only 256 colours but tends to look pretty lousy.
-----------------Technical Notes------------------------
The installation program creates a file, SKELETON.INI, in the \I-SKEL
directory. This file will look like this:
[IASkeleton]
CDRom=E:\skeleton\
DatabaseHome=c:\I-SKEL\skeleton.mdb
DesignHome=E:\skeleton\design
The first entry, (CDRom=...) is used to tell the program where
the skeleton directory is. It is possible for this to be set
incorrectly; you might have to edit this line by hand. If so, make
sure that you include a trailing backslash! If you wish to copy the
directory onto your harddisk be sure to change both this entry and the
one pointing to the DesignHome.
Should you encounter any problem with accessing the database you can
circumvent this by deleting the Database entry in the file.
-------Trouble Shooting-------
------------------------------
General Memory Errors
If you are having memory problems when running the Interactive Skeleton you
should disable all non-essential drivers and utilities from your CONFIG.SYS
and AUTOEXEC.BAT files.
Ensure that you have closed down all non-essential Windows programs before
trying to run the title.
You may also find that running "CHKDSK /f" within DOS will sort out any lost
allocations and memory problems that you encounter. This has also been known
to solve problems with inaudible sound cards.
Error message "Movies will be unavailable"
This occurs when the program is unable to load the software MPEG decoder
owing to low memory (see above). You can work around this by running the
SOFTMPEG.EXE program directly from File Manager before running the Interactive
Skeleton.
