Zip Manager Update Version 3.01
-------------------------------
October 20,1990
This file contains important information on Version 3.01 of Zip Manager and
Windows 3.0
Functionality for Computers with Windows/Bios Chip Conflicts.
-------------------------------------------------------------
As described in the zmdiag.txt file Zip Manager 3.0 was able to find
incompatibilities between certain bios chips and windows with uncanny
accuracy. Version 3.01 will now run on any computer regardless of the
bios version.
Read Only and Overwrite Switch
------------------------------
Version 3.01 no longer uses the overwrite option as the default. The
-o PKUNZIP switch is now located in the switches menu. Read only Zip
Files can now be extracted on Banyan LAN'S in addition to single user
computers.
Windows and the DOS Environment.
-------------------------------
In our examination of the DOS environment and the way Windows reacts with it
the following suggestions may be helpful.
DOS Programs and the Command Line.
-----------------------------------
As mentioned in the Windows User's Manual you should not pass more than
12 characters as a command line argument when using the ? in a PIF file.
The reason for this we discovered, was that in most instances only 12 - 17
characters can be passed as command line args. When you go beyond this limit
the args become truncated(cut off) after the limit is reached.
A good rule of thumb is to keep your sub-directory names as short as possible. If
The deeper you nest them below the root, the more likely you are to have
the parameters passed to them become truncated. This is less critical when
you are using a native Windows Program since the Program Manager will
change to the directory that holds the Windows executable before any
parameters are passed thus lowering the number of characters need to
be passed as arguments.
We hope that the above information will make using Windows 3.0 a more
enjoyable experience. As always if you need technical support with
Zip Manager feel free to call us during regular business hours.
